Bovines of the world by Jose R Castello Book Review

Bovines of the world by Jose R Castello Book review
 Princeton Press Field Guide.
It's not just Technology that I have an interest in, you may also have seen I review books too, not just zombie apocalyptic books, Im a girl who loves her natural history As a wildlife photographer I truly love all things Nature orientated .

Ive got so many books on animals and birds, British wildlife, moths, butterflies you name it I probably have a book on it; here are just a few Ive reviewed.
But Bovines are something you just dont see many books on if any.
Many of us animal lovers have marveled on how magnificent Bison and antelopes are and we've ooed and arred at the stunning elegance of gazelles and the adorable Dik-diks yes it is a word I can assure you.

But what do you know of these, well Jose Castello has just published the "worlds first" comprehensive gorgeous chunky guide on Bovines of the world from Princeton Press

See more about this wonderful book on Bovids below...
"What are Bovids"? I here you say...yep I can hear you...well...Bovids are a diverse group of animals that have hooves and unbranched hollow horns.
That includes Antelopes, Gazelles, Cattle, Goats, sheep and others which you have to agree are among the worlds most spectacular horned animals.

The work involved in putting together such an incredible collection of animals and the information about each animal must have taken years, I cannot begin to guess how many hours Jose has put into collecting the data for such an impressive field guide. This is the one and only book you'll ever need on these animals.

Author Bio
Jose R Castello lives in Madrid as a medical Doctor with a particular interest in zoology and biology, he is a member of the American Society of Mammalologists and the Spanish Society for Conservation and study of mammal's.

This specialized guide is for those of you that absolutely love your Natural history like me and also enjoy reading about it.

 Beautifully illustrated front cover.

The back cover has a detailed explanation of whats inside this impressive book.

Closeup so you can read this yourself.

So let me give you a run down of whats inside;
Its the first ever comprehensive guide of all 279 Bovid species; with 337 stunning colour plates of every Bovid. I can honestly say these images are beautiful.

Just checkout the thickness of this book, its not a pocket guide type, unless you have a very well reinforced pocket, it is heavy! The quality of  the paper and print is exceptional and you will notice the coloured sections these will help you find what your looking for using the sub index inside.

So the first part of the book has some fascinating biological info on size shape and colour of these animals. A really interesting section at the beginning is how they grow from calf to adult see the image above, then the skeletal differences between the Bovid species.

Then the antlers, well its what we all love these species of animals for, Jose goes on to show us the variety and types of horns, how they grow, what they are made of everything in detail and I do love detail.
Ive always had an interest in biology so anything with bones and skulls makes me happy.
At the back of the book it also shows some fantastic variety of skulls with these species; Im not showing too much as Ill give it all away but honestly its worth getting because of this, I find this absolutely fascinating.

He doesn't stop here this guide goes about depicting EVERY kind of Bovid with key IDs of horn morphology, distribution of that animal around the world, its habitat, and conservation plus what it eats, when it breeds, how long for, I could go on...and on...really I could.

So how can you use this book?
  1. Well firstly its perfect for the person wanting to accurately identify all known species and sub-species of Bovids. Using the gorgeous illustrations of the body, measurements and a super clever part being illustrations showing each species from calf to juvenile to adult, male and female as they can differ considerably....amazing!
  2. Then of course checkout the size, shape and colour of the horns its all there for you to ID your subject. As a photographer this is vital when labeling your photos correctly.
  3. Jose has structured this guide based on taxonomic classification of the family Bovidae into tribes, and is organized to provide a more ease of use for us as the reader. So basically its divided into antelopes, goats etc. This is made easier by colour ID as you can see from my image at the top margin of the book.
  4. So you turn to the section of family/tribe you think you saw then you can easily flick through looking at the accurate illustrations and break it down by area you saw it, what was it feeding on etc; till eventually you have accurately ID'd your Bovid.
For an example Im using this Impala, it shows images from every view point, it's coloration (this can vary very slightly) its horn shape and general stance and the sometimes subtle differences between the sexes.
I would like to point out every species in this book is shown by actual photos as seen above.

Calf to juvenile and then a super clever idea the size in comparison to an average man; this is genius as its an instant visual measurement guide. Every species has this in the bottom left corner.

Then we have a small map on the opposite page showing exactly where they can be found in the world.

Then of course all the info you could possible want to know about your Impala.
  • Subspecies.
  • Similar species (so you know where to look if this isnt your guy).
  • Reproduction.
  • Life span.
  • Behavior.
  • what it feeds on.
  • what time of day its more active etc.
  • Distribution across the world.
  • Its habitat.
An excellent addition and highly important section is on Status;  where Jose explains if these animals are endangered and why, deforestation etc.

For me just the sheer variety of these magnificent animals is astounding; for example Brent Huffman who writes the foreword (with Colin Groves) explains the Asian wild water Buffalo is such a massive size contrast to the tiny Royal Antelope which is the size of a rabbit with almost a thousand kg in weight difference between them.

I was so very impressed with the stunning images; check out bully the Bison here; isn't he just magnificent...!

I love the small clip of the young..so cute.

One of the most unusual species Ive discovered while looking through, was this Takin; they say ugly is a strange beauty; well I would tak-im home in an instant, I think he looks wonderful.

But my favorite tribe is the Antilopini and the Oreotragini like this little Klipspringer here; as they have the most adorable eyes and ears and are generally the smallest species around, about the size of a cat or small dog.

Im not going to show you guys anymore or this will be a very long review and I dont want to spoil the sheer magnificence of this beautifully illustrated book.

Summary
This stunning comprehensive field guide is one of the most thoroughly researched field guides I own and is a must for anyone who adores natural history; with 337 colour plates and 1500 photographs this is the first EVER comprehensive guide on Bovids.
Its ideal for the biologist and scientist who wants to know the details of certain species in minute detail or someone who is studying zoology. I studied zoology for many years and I would have loved this book to have helped with some of my studies.
If your a traveler who follows wildlife throughout the world this will be an invaluable guide to ID these amazing species. Although not meant for the shirt pocket as its quite heavy despite being called a field guide.

There's nothing better than being able to ID an animal you've photographed and then find out what it likes to eat and more about its individual behaviors.
I think you will be amazed at the sheer diversity of these stunning animals, from their variety of horns; straight, curved, twisted, curly, small to large and majestic but all beautiful works of art.

I highly recommend this book, its probably not a book you will thumb through page to page to the very end...but if your like me you just cant help picking it up off your coffee table every day and discovering another new species for the first time like your a modern day Darwin.

You can get your copy of
from Amazon UK or directly through Princeton Press

I have to thank Princeton Press for kindly sending me this amazing book to share with you all.
All my views and opinions are my own and all photos are mine unless otherwise stated.

Ebola K - A Terrorism Thriller Book 1 Bobby Adair Book Review

Blurb
In 1989 the Ebola virus mutated to into an airborne strain that infected humans for the first time on American soil in Reston, Virginia. Through belated containment efforts and luck, nobody died.
Now, in the remote East African village of Kapchorwa, the Ebola virus has mutated into another airborne strain without losing any of its deadly potency.

In this thriller, terrorists stumble across this new, fully lethal strain and while the world fearfully watches the growing epidemic in West Africa as Sierra Leone goes into country-wide lock down, only a few Americans are aware of Ebola K and the danger it poses—to be the deadliest pandemic in the history of mankind.

Can they do anything to protect themselves from this killer disease? Can they stop the terrorists?

Opinion
Wow just finished the last page of this book and did I say Wow. I've been reading my favorite genre of zombie books like forever...which I'm still obsessed with by the way...but it's a refreshing change to read an alternative type of horror genre. After reading Slow Burn 1 and 2 I loved Bobby's comical but detailed gory way of writing.
This new series however is a huge change but directed in another direction. We have all heard about the reality of the Ebola outbreak last year which hit Africa and really touched home to us all, when both the US and the UK had Ebola patients suffering from it making this outbreak very real and quite frightening. A huge reality check that it could actually happen to any of us if our governments don't put protection in place right now....rant over!

Situated in Denver, Stepmum and Dad Heidi and Paul haven't heard from their son Austin whose been out teaching street kids in a small town in Africa. What they don't know he has been stranded in Kapchorwa as a small outbreak of Ebola breaks out and has stopped to help his friends...which isn't going to end well is it? Austin is your ordinary boy next door who is accidentally in the wrong place at the wrong time as he witnesses horrific suffering and also has to make a huge life choice as he watches his friends fall sick from from this deadly new strain of airborne Ebola.
Bobby has created a complete opposite character from the kind Austin in Najid Almasi whose has vengeful plans for the world using the latest Ebola outbreak, he literally lights a fuse using his loyal army of Jihadists and simply sits back and waits...how easy is that!

Bobby has written this simple plot and we are swept along in this seriously realistic fast paced read, wondering just whats going to happen next. What leader doesn't want to get his hands on Germ Warfare and what better germ than the deadliest of all.
Bobby...bows down....you are officially a...genius!

This could be today's actual headlines and the reality makes things so much more frightening. Love this book and just rushed off to Amazon and downloaded Ebola K 2 and it's 05.10am and I've just got to keep reading lol....sooo sleepy but NEED to read on....!

Remember this first book is free and I love Bobby's honesty with " The first is free and if you like it buy the next" which Ive done and no regrets.

Occult Assassin: Damnation Code (Book 1) By William Massa Book Review

By William Massa

Blurb
THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ACTION-HORROR SERIES.

Apocalyptic Cults. Cursed Relics. Supernatural Rituals. Paranormal Terrorists.
Only one man stands against the agents of darkness...

After a decade spent fighting the enemy abroad and keeping his country safe, Delta Force Operator Mark Talon is ready to settle down with the love of his life. But Talon’s world crumbles when his fiancĂ©e becomes the victim of a murderous cult. The military man now has a new foe in his cross-hairs, and this promises to be a very different war…

The person responsible for his beloved’s death is a Silicon Valley tycoon allied with the forces of darkness. Fusing cutting-edge computer technology with occult power, the enemy here cannot be stopped by bullets alone. If Talon is to be victorious in his mission of vengeance, he will need to master a new method of warfare — the arcane arts!

He must become… the Occult Assassin.

Im a huge fan of Mr Massa's books each one so different to the next; a sign of a brilliant writer that has so many great ideas. So I couldn't wait to read Occult Assassin the start of a fab new series when it appeared in my inbox.
I have to say Mr Massa's books are unique to anything I have read; I love the powerful combination of science fiction, horror and murder mystery; especially with this new Occult Assassin series.
I'm loving the main character and hero Delta Force operator Mark Talon who is immediately likable and very realistic. We see him ready to settle down and planning a future with his beautiful fiance, but that was never going to happen was it....as she is sadistically murdered for what secrets she had uncovered as a journalist. I'm so disappointed she was killed off as I really liked her...sigh!
Of course Talon goes on a revenge mission to uncover why and who and we are all right behind him in yet another brilliant, unputdownable fast paced read. Mr Massa has cleverly combined technology and the occult; so the only way to fight these murderous cult members is to become an occult assassin himself. Its James Bond meets futuristic dark arts technology.
I hate spoilers so you really NEED to read the book to find out more. These edge of seat action scenes are horrific and gruesomely realistic as William's powerful text puts you right there next to Talon; where you can feel his grief and deep loss and you know he's not going to stop till he's delivered his own justified revenge. Its so different to anything else you may have read just go buy it...honestly.
Yet another excellent, well written, brilliant idea for a book and I cant wait to read book 2 Occult Assassin Apocalypse Soldier. I would highly recommend too; reading the prequel to this new series Occult Assassin Ice God for a brief introduction to Mark Talon.
But Damnation Code is a complete read in itself and I cant wait to see what Talon is upto in book 2 Apocalypse soldier.

More from Talon in Book 2

Devoured The Hunger Book 1 by Jason Brant Book Review

Blurb
Day One: A series of terrorist attacks spread a cloud of noxious gas over highly populated areas.
Day Two: Higher brain function erodes in those exposed to the gas. Their bodies begin to distort, faces distending, skin sallowing, teeth elongating.
Day Three: The infected disappear into the shadows, fleeing the harsh daylight which has begun to sear their flesh.
Day Four: The world is DEVOURED.

Life isn’t kind to Lance York. A full-time job has eluded him for years, his wife loathes the sight of him, his bank accounts are empty, and his wealthy father-in-law revels in his failures.
After he lunges in front of a car to save a sick and disoriented woman, Lance awakens in a quarantined hospital. A devastating plague is spreading worldwide, driving those infected with it insane. Their bodies begin to mutate into horrors that have haunted mankind’s nightmares for centuries.

The world descends into chaos as the infected flee to the shadows, emerging at night to devour the remnants of civilization.
With the help of an unlikely ally, Lance must navigate through the collapsing city of Pittsburgh, striving to escape the madness of the apocalypse that unfolds around them.

This was the first book Ive read from Jason Brant and it wont be my last. I had downloaded this for free quite awhile ago but only just got round to reading it. What a fantastic fast paced read, I was hooked and completely sucked into this fast paced storyline from the very first page...why on earth...hadn't I read this earlier...doh!
If you love your zombie dystonian horror and gore you so need to read this next as its quite different to your normal zombie-esk reads. These monsters are a horrific combination of zombies and vampires similar to those of the Blade trilogy with larger bodies and more grotesque features making these creatures almost impossible to fight and so much more terrifying.

What's great about this book is that most of us can relate to or know someone like Lance who is in a really bad place, with a nagging wife, not enough money and is feeling quite down.  Jason has made us as the reader really feel for this guy as he's so realistic and completely believable. I was almost shouting at the screen when I discovered more about his scheming wife...no more spoilers here...grrr.

Its been brilliantly written and I was completely sucked into this storyline and I absolutely loved watching Lance develop naturally throughout the book from this downtrodden guy to a more confident ass-kicking hero which is so convincing. Part of the reason for this new found confidence was Cassie who saved his butt from not just the night and day-walkers but the Militia (its not just monsters to be scared of out there).
She is a likable, cocky young woman who is confident and strong not scared to  kick ass when needed. Girl power at its best...yesss! However her constant use of the word "dumbass" aimed at Lance was actually getting on my nerves as funny, quirky and likable as she is; even though it ends up as a term of endearment.
We watch Lances confidence grow as the two of them fight together to get to the national safety point and of course this isn't going to go easy or is it even going to be safe?

I found myself speeding through this book unable to put it down; another 6am finish on this lol!
Go grab this you've no excuse as its FREE as I type here for kindles.

Loved it and I cant wait to read book 2.

Time of Death Book 1 Induction and Book 2 Asylum by Shana Festa Book Reviews.

I just discovered Shana Festa through her amazing site The Bookie Monster and she kindly sent me both her Time of Death books to read.
One of my all time favorite authors Mark Tufo also recommended this book and wrote a great forward to Book 1 Induction; Shana's very first book and of course he was absolutely right.

Blurb
When no one or nowhere is safe, where do you go to escape the monsters?

In a few short days, 37 year old Emma Rossi’s hard work will finally pay off. She will don her cap and gown and graduate with a degree in nursing, but not before she loses her first patient and is confronted with a new reality. In Cape Coral, Florida, a storm approaches. The dead are coming back to life.

And they’re hungry.

Infection ravages the Eastern Seaboard with alarming speed while attempts to contain the spread of infection fail. Within days, a small pocket of panicked survivors are all that remain of civilization. Fighting to survive the zombie apocalypse alongside her husband Jake and their dog Daphne, Emma comes face-to-face with her worst nightmare.
Relying on snarky wit and sheer determination, she is forced to commit atrocious acts to protect her family and avoid joining the ranks of the undead.

The difference with this read is you finally have a female main character that is a kick ass, dog loving student nurse after my own heart with a great sense of humor. Emma Rossi is a brilliant well defined character who is definitely the female version of Mike Talbot from Zombie Fallout (those of you that are zombie-aholics will not need anymore explanation). Like Mike in ZF I found myself laughing out loud with her witty wisecracks and fab sense of humor; but also feeling the fear and sorrow in others, its the sign of a great writer to make you feel so many emotions. You can tell Shana's own medical knowledge as she allows Emma to show her medical expertise throughout. Emma is so realistic and reminds me of me when I was nurse training with their jokes with certain patients.
Daphne the Yorkie is another fab character...yes a dog can have character...before you all yell at me...sheesh! Shana has named the dog after her own pet dog at home; which of course I love but I have been living in fear of her being eaten alive...every time I turn the page... Shana...what you doing to me eeep!
My only niggle was I found Jake to be the weaker, more annoying character so I hope we get to see him step up more in book 2.

So what starts as a familiar day as a student nurse; turns into a apocalyptic chaos with Emma and Jake her husband fighting for their survival. If zombies ar'nt enough they have a hurricane to worry about too.
We get to see them reunite with other members of the Rossi family and also have to act on horrific acts to stay alive which would have been unthinkable the day before. Its a fast paced convincing, realistic gory read you simply cannot put down to the end. They found sanctuary on Sanibel Island where they all finally found safety and could relax without fear; but it only takes 1 person to change everything!
I'm just about to start book 2 as I just cant stop reading, I need to know what happens next...right now!

Blurb
Surviving the journey is just the beginning.
The last two months have brought nothing but death and destruction for Emma Rossi. She survived the initial zombie outbreak with her husband, Jake, and their dog, Daphne, but the cost was steep: Sanibel has fallen.

In a world where the only constant is change, the group is pushed to their limits before reaching the gates of Asylum, a coastal stronghold in Sarasota, Florida.
Once again, Emma must navigate an apocalyptic wasteland filled with relentless hordes of the undead and other menacing horrors that threaten her survival.

Only thing is certain. No one is safe from what lurks on either side of Asylum's gates. Asylum may offer more than just safety.
Sanity will be tested; and many won't live to tell the tale.

The Rossi's have only just escaped Sanibel and find themselves back to life on a boat. More deaths more very close shaves as they continue to fight for their lives Daphne included...phewey....thank goodness.

We get to meet some new fab characters. Striker a tough cop who helps them get to safety or is it....? The Asylum is a large group of survivors who are living together, run by creepy Mack the self promoted president of US who Emma discovers has the basement off limits. Yeah it'd drive me nuts too but curiosity killed the cat an all...it maybe the best idea to leave it alone but....hey it wouldn't be an exciting, scary e-read if you weren't yelling at the screen....don't do it.
I love this book as Shana isn't scared to kill off popular characters...loving the shock value; she has alot of new characters that stand well by themselves making it so realistic as we are swept along on a compelling and intriguing read too. Why do only some parts of the Asylum have electric, why are the men separated to work during the day.
Those of you that love Walking dead will find this on a similar line to Woodbury or The terminus you know something is wrong but don't know what...yet...!
I'm also gutted Em and Jake are at loggerheads as he is working with the other guys; so hopefully book three brings them back together...I'm gagging for book 3 now with a brilliant cliffhanger; what have Em and Meg have stumbled across and have they been rumbled too; is Jasper friend or foe....so many questions...I cant wait!

I would highly recommend reading book 1 Induction first so you can appreciate Asylum so much better and you would get to know the characters more deeply too. Its so refreshing to have a female main character as most authors seems scared to go to there with horror and you've made it work beautifully with a great balance of toughness and femininity.

Keep up the fab writing Shana..Im hooked!

Children of the After: Awakening, Revelation, Evolution Book #1 #2 #3 by Jeremy Laszlo Book Reviews

Children of the After: Awakening
Children of the After: Revelation #2
Children of the After: Evolution #3
 by Jeremy Laszlo

I was lucky to get book 1 when it was free on Amazon UK and have been hooked on this series ever since; plus I thought Id keep the whole series together in one large review as they are so quick to read being novellas.

Blurb
It has been six months since their father locked them in the security vault with a promise to return. But he never came back. With supplies running out and vital life support systems failing, Jack, Samantha, and Will have no choice but to ignore their father’s warnings and leave the vault. With no knowledge of what befell the world outside, or what they might expect once the door is opened, they find themselves in a world they do not recognize.

Thrust into the remains of the world they remember, how will they survive on their own, not knowing what or who else remains amongst the ruins?

I dont often read Young adult books but there was something about the blurb that caught my imagination and attention and the book was FREE what had I to lose.

I read this book in one sitting as its in between a novel and novella and I simply couldn't put it down. Its perfect for the teens but some adults may enjoy this too. I loved the 3 separate characters of the kids and showing so clearly the different ages. Its well written and has brilliant character development as the kids have to to start fending for themselves. We watch them grow as scared children to becoming pretty sensible when needed even the youngest Will whose 14 year old sister Sam has taken to her "Mum" role perfectly and Jack is the brilliant older brother we all want to have.
I love the extremely close bond they have between them and Jeremy most certainly has experience with kids to write with such detailed and childhood understanding. The childlike terminology brings this book together and kids will love this read....all wanting to be Jack Im sure.

Locked in their home's vault by their Dad for safety, running out of food they have to leave before they starve; and to their shock discover utter devastation; their home and city destroyed but who is following them; who is the older man on a horse and the even stranger monkey-like beings?

I would have loved for this to have been much longer as I prefer novels and getting completely immersed into a read. I finished this compelling read within 2.5 hours and went onto buy the second immediately as I simply NEED to know what happens next as it ends on a sort of cliffhanger.
A good start to this series and I'm now off to download book 2...watch this space!

Blurb

Having learned of the destruction of their world, Jack, Sam, and Will are forced to flee the security of their Grandparent’s home with blood thirsty beasts hot on their trail. Leaving the dark rider and the answers he likely had behind, they again are forced to fend for themselves as they are pursued relentlessly.

It isn't until they begin to see signs of life that hope is rekindled, but with the beasts gaining on them, will they reach what surely must be salvation, or will they fall victim to the creatures that destroyed the world they once knew.

Book 2 of this series is an even faster paced read than the first which I actually enjoyed more.
Will Jack Sammy find Tammy a mute friend who saves their lives several times.
Finding the safety of a resistance camp they discover more about her and the aliens attacking.

Despite being a teen read I actually enjoyed this more than the first book and I whisked through this read in under 3 hours thoroughly enjoying the unexpected twists and turns although like other reviewers I wish it were longer.
The story has really grown on me and is so intriguing. Its been written with such a realistic child's point of view which will really appeal to the kids out there. I would say its definitely a teen read but some adults may still enjoy it like me as Jeremy has created a good balance between teen and adult reads.
I'm loving the realistic character development of the three kids; especially Will who is having to grow up fast. The author is clearly a parent as he's nailed the different reactions from the kids and how they deal with things slightly differently according to age.
Tammy is a fab new character and not only is she great for girl power; the author is making a valid point that just because someone is different it doesn't mean they are bad...showing humans can be cruel with things they don't understand....high five Mr Laszlo.

What makes this read slightly different from other alien reads is the fact they are dealing with a variety of aliens not just the one; plus you don't know if its an alien standing next to you.....
The gore and horror is toned down quite a bit as a teen read; but the excellent storyline makes up for this. I hope Mr Laszlo will turn to more adult novels as I personally prefer more horror and gore but I love his writing style. I did however chose to download these books already knowing it was YA.
Overall another compelling, engaging read and I cant wait for book 3.

Now off to checkout Book 3!

Children of the after: Evolution #3
 by Jeremy Laszlo

Blurb
Having stolen the pickup, Ole Bessy, from the Resistance, Jack, Samantha, and Will find themselves on the run once again. Pursued by those who had once kept them as captives, they are forced to flee into the unknown.

Now that Tammy’s secret has been exposed, she reveals to her friends a prophecy of her people, further complicating the web of fate the siblings find themselves in.

Finding both new allies and new foes, revealed secrets will lead them all to ‘The City of Angels’ to face the ultimate threat by the invaders themselves.

Being a complete apocalypse junkie I powered through Evolution book 3 after enjoying the other 2 so much; but annoyingly didn't find it as compelling as the first two in the series. But Im sure this is just a slight slow down maybe ready for book 4? I understand you cant keep up the fast pace or it could get too samely.

Saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the three kids practicing their new superpowers and I'm really loving little Will's brilliantly developing character. Its wonderful to see him becoming a huge part in keeping the group safe especially his new pet....!

Just to say Im well above the age group of this series...eeep...young at heart though...but still enjoyed this read and will be reading book 4 ASAP hoping its picked up!

First and foremost I am a father and a husband. I work full time as a civilian employed by the US army, and have also been known as a welder, electrician, carpenter, roofer, writer, painter, CNC machinist, and amongst many other things a romantic. I also belong to the eternal fraternal brotherhood of the United States Marine Corps, having served 8 years that showed me a much broader perspective of the world at large serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, The war on Terrorism, and the humanitarian effort in Liberia.

I currently live in southern Louisiana with my wife and children, though I grew up in Michigan, graduating high school in Mason MI. I also spent time living in North Carolina, Florida, and California during my time in the United States Marine Corps. I have always dreamed of publishing my work, and seeing it on a bookshelf in a store, however with the huge shift to digital media I finally realized that the dream was in my own hands. I tell my children that they can live their dreams, and I believe in leading by example.

I enjoy writing across several different genres from poetry, to children's stories, to full epic fantasies. Creating new characters for my readers to connect with, new worlds for them to immerse themselves in, and new ideas to wrap their minds around is an amazing if not humbling experience. I hope that all my readers can take something away from each of my books, and enjoy reading them just as much as I have enjoyed putting them in print.

Prior to writing this novel, I hadn't published a single thing my own girls could read. It was with that in mind that this new series was created, and I couldn't write this first novel fast enough for them. They were ravenous in its consumption, reading each chapter right after I had it completed. It feels like a wonderful achievement to create something your children appreciate and enjoy. Inspiring a child's imagination is the most humbling thing in the entire world, for they are unrestrained and can see what others miss. Thank you all for your wonderful support and feedback. I hope you have all enjoyed reading this first installment as much as I have in writing it.
